Baseball season is near.

With basketball season winding down, baseball season is almost here!  Jameson probably won't be playing, but there are a lot of kids around here who are.

I've gotten a couple requests for baseball-related shirts over the past few weeks, so I thought I would share:

This onesie is obviously not for a player, but for a newborn with a baseball-themed nursery.  The customer gave me free-reign with the design, so this is what we came up with:

I think it turned out super-cute!  I hope the new parents love it!

Here are a couple of other designs that we decided not to use:

I've since found a different "J" to use with this style. (Like the one on the above onesie)

Not only is it baseball season, it's also Disney World season for our friends!  Mommy ran out of time to order shirts from Etsy, so she asked if I could whip-up a couple of designs before they left.

Mommy wanted a shirt to wear, too:

These were so much fun to do, it makes me want to hide in their suitcase so I can go, too!

It's the middle of the week friends!  It's all downhill towards the weekend from here!

Basketball Season is coming to a close.

Basketball season is winding down around here.  We have one practice and one game left.  Jameson has had a fantastic time, but I'm pretty sure that we won't have any playoffs to deal with:

We were GUEST.  **ahem**

Really mom?
Jameson and Marty
Jameson has really never been much of a "sports kid", so we have been thrilled that he actually loves playing basketball.  We hope he continues to practice throughout the year and get better and better!  We've had a wonderful time watching him play (as well as the other kids) and can't wait until next year!

New(ish) car fever.

Hey y'all!  It's another week already.  Time is just flying too quickly!

As much as we hate it, we are going to have to buy a new(ish) car at some point this year.  We still love our current Pathfinder, but it has almost 200,000 miles on it. We aren't having any problems with my car, but are scared to tempt fate for too much longer.  Considering my car is the one that we all drive about 90% of the time, and with the amount of driving I do (mainly back and forth for work), I really need to have something extremely dependable.   We've been looking around at new(er) cars for a while, and just couldn't find something we loved, but could still afford.

We REALLY want a new Pathfinder, but whoa buddy, those things are EXPENSIVE!  Even the base models are way out of our budget.

We've also been looking at Muranos, but to get the options we want, they are still really pricy.

We then started looking at various Hondas, Chevrolets, and Fords, but really couldn't find something that fit with the options we want, we can afford, and will also let us get 200,000 miles on it and not have to have it in the shop all the time.  We've really been lucky with our current Pathfinder.  We have almost 200,000 miles on it and we've only had to replace the rear end (where the bearings wore out) and do routine maintenance (brake shoes, tires, oil changes, filters, etc....)  We MUST have the same reliability in our future car.

After hitting some car lots over the weekend, we think we have finally decided what we want to get:

A Toyota Venza.

Yes, it looks like a jacked-up station wagon on the outside, but the inside is DIVINE...

Photo from HERE
especially compared to the super-boxy, non-fancy styling I've had for the past 7 years with the Pathfinder.  It feels like a luxury car on the inside, but it still sits up off the road like a small SUV.  There is still tons of room, and has much more rear passenger room than we currently have with the Pathfinder.  It also gets better gas mileage, which is definitely a PLUS!

Jameson fell in LOVE with the one we tested and got really upset we came home without it! (Honestly, we were pretty sad to leave that one in the lot, too!)  The great thing is, we can get a LOADED (gently used) Venza  for much cheaper than a base model Pathfinder or Murano.  It's going to be a few more months before we actually bite the new-car bullet, but we think this one is a winner!

Do any of you have any pros/cons of the Venza?  We don't know anyone that has one, and honestly hadn't even heard of them until a couple of weeks ago, so this is new territory for us!  LOL

I hope your Monday is as fabulous as you are!

Randomness...Slacker Mama style

For the past couple of weeks, I've seen several bloggers doing different variations of "let me tell you something about myself" type of posts.  I have enjoyed reading them all so much, so I thought I would do one myself!

  1. Every morning when my alarm goes off, I get up, go potty, and then go right back to bed and hit the snooze button several more times.  This may be the reason that I never get to work on time.
  2. Speaking of running late, I never get up one minute earlier than I need to.  I jump up, shower, get ready, grab my stuff and run out the door.  It drives Marty nuts.
  3. I hate coffee. I want to love it, but it makes me gag.
  4.  I have Toddlers and Tiaras set as a series recording on my DVR.
  5.  I tell myself about three times a week that I'm going to delete my Twitter account.  Then something happens that sucks me back in
  6. While most people watch Hoarders for the pure entertainment value, I watch it to scare me into NOT becoming one.  If I'm not careful, I think I could seriously become one.  Not the "I'm too lazy to get off my butt to go to the bathroom so I guess I will just do it right here" kind of hoarder, but the "Oh look it's a sale, so let's buy 12 of everything" kind of hoarder.
  7. I can only cook if my kitchen is clean.  If it's a huge mess, I think it just confuses me and it sucks the desire to cook right out of me.  This may explain why we eat out a lot.
  8. I still get butterflies in my stomach when Marty walks in the door from work.
  9. When I see that I have a private message on Facebook, I have a small panic attack.  Every.Single.Time
  10.  I have a weird type of photographic memory.  It's more of a "spacial" memory thing.  For example, when I read a test question, I may not know the answer, but I can tell you where in the book, and where on the page the answer is.  I can also usually tell if something has been moved in a room -  which is a huge feat if you have every seen any of my rooms.
  11. I talk to myself....A LOT.  I probably talk to myself more than I talk to other people, which is sad considering I am a phone triage nurse and I talk on the phone ALL DAY LONG.
Well my friends, that's enough about me.  Tell me something really awesome about yourself!

Just another Alien Queen after a long day at work.

Some days after work, I feel like this Alien Queen:

Confused?  Maybe this will help you understand:

It's nice to get dressed up once in a while!

Hey friends!  I hope you had a fantastic weekend!  After weeks of rain and gray skies (it seemed) and a small snow event on Thursday, we have actually had three whole days of gorgeous sunshine!  It has been FABULOUS!
 -----------------------------

Throughout the years, Marty and I seem to go out less and less.  We once used to go out multiple times a week, rarely ever staying at home.  These days, it is the complete opposite.  We rarely ever leave the house, except for work and church (and the dreaded car-rider line).  As Dorothy once said, "There's no place like home!"  We love being at home and being together, but every once in a while, it's nice to actually dress up, go out, and be with friends

Yesterday we did just that!

The daughter of one of my very special friends got married, and we were thrilled to be invited to the big event!  One of the things I was most excited about (other than the actual nuptials itself) was getting to meet my friend's family, who flew in from across the world to be there.  I've talked to them on the phone before, but now I was going to actually meet them in person!

The wedding was two hours away, but Marty and I enjoyed the wonderful sunshine, and great conversation  during the drive.  Once there, the venue was fantastic and the wedding decor was hip, funky and fabulous! The bride was gorgeous and her dress couldn't have been more perfect. We finally got to meet my friend's family and it was like we've known them forever!  It's lovely to know that we have friends from across the world!  It was also great to see some old friends and familiar faces!

The ceremony was sweet, funny, and beautiful, and the reception was a blast!  They had everything from an ice cream bar, to instant photos complete with props, to a delicious buffet, to awesome music and dancing!  The best thing to most of the attendees was a television broadcasting the Atlanta Falcons game.  It's a pity they lost (to some), however.

We had a blast, but it got late quickly, so we had to leave.  I wouldn't want to have to get all dressed up all the time, but it's nice to get dressed up once in a while!

Snow Day 2013!

Yesterday started off pretty blah. It was cold and rainy, and neither Jameson or I had any motivation to get doing. But, Jameson had school and I had to buy groceries, so we pushed on and got up and out. I dropped Jameson off at school and headed straight to buy groceries before the rush of people came in to buy their milk and bread for the predicted "snow storm". I managed to make it through the produce and meat sections and then I got a call from the school. Jameson and some other kids fell while running during P.E., and Jameson took a knee to the groin/lower abdomen. The nurse asked if I could come to the school and bring him "something for the pain."

So, I rushed through check-out (without most of of my grocery list)and headed to the school. Of course once I'm there, Jameson wasn't thrilled with me just giving him some Motrin and leaving without him. He gave me the sad puppy-eye look, and of course, being the huge sucker that I am, went ahead and checked him out. Who doesn't need a mental health day every once in a while?

We went home, Jameson did homework and studied for Friday's tests, and then rested on the couch. The funny thing was, within about 15 minutes of getting home, the school called and said they were being dismissed at 11:30 due to bad weather. If he could have just held out for a couple more hours, he would have been home anyway. Oh well, live and learn, I guess.

We anxiously awaited the snow.  Every newscast was filled with tons of photos taken by people in West Alabama, who were already covered in  snow.  We were all going crazy waiting on those first few snowflakes!

Chelsea was with my Mama, and they were as excited as we were.  We called back and forth all day long.  Around 12:00, we started to get our first flakes!  Jameson was so excited!  We called Mama and Chelsea and they were mad that they hadn't gotten any yet...which was weird because they live on the mountain and usually get snow before any of us do.

So, from then until around 5:00 or so, it snowed and snowed and snowed!  The ground was warm, so initially most of it melted, but pretty soon, the snow started to stick!  Jameson decided his "pride" wasn't hurting any more and ran out to play.

I don't know if you can see it or not, but Jameson and Spencer are in Spencer's yard already playing.

Poor deer...he always gets stuck out in the snow.
The snow was pretty light for a while, but then the heavier snow started moving in!

I couldn't believe how fast the snow started to stack up!

The grill is getting covered!
By this time, the boys were freezing, and came for for a little while to warm up by the fire and drink some hot chocolate.  They also had to play around and act goofy!

Then the snow started to come down really hard.  The flakes were HUGE and so wet!  It was SO beautiful to watch!

For some reason, the boys thought Mr. Deer needed an American flag.  Don't worry, it's safely in the dry house now.  The flag, not the deer.  LOL

After a few more hours in the snow, the boys finally decided they should come inside, especially since they couldn't feel their hands anymore.  Jameson headed straight for a hot shower, and I headed out onto the front porch to enjoy another rare site around here these days....the sun!

The day may have started off "blah", but ended up being a day filled with a lot of laughter, fun, snow and SUN!  Even though it may be years from now, I can't wait until the next snow day!

It's a lazy kind of day.

It is a dreary, rainy, lazy kind of day today.

As much as I wanted to stay at home, snuggled in my warm bed, I had to get out in this mess and go to work.  But, I did try to take a little bit of comfort with me. I am rockin' the stretchy pants today:

But, trying to not be too much of a slob, I did have to add a little bling:

If the sun doesn't come out soon, I may lose my mind.

The one bright side is we may actually get some snow this week!  I better hit the grocery store and buy my bread and milk!

Mama's Mumblings

Hey friends!
We've had days and days of rain (with a few periods of no rain, but still clouds).  I know we need the rain, but my mood sure would benefit from a little bit of sunshine!  Maybe the sun could shine all day and then it only would rain at night.  That sounds like a good idea to me.  LOL

----------------------------------

Basketball continues around here.  Jameson had two games last week, and both opponents were from other areas.  When we saw each team warming up, we knew we were in trouble.  The other teams looked like pros compared to us.  However, after both games were over, we found out that our 9 - 10 year olds were playing their 12 and 13 year olds.  Huge difference when it comes to sports.

Jameson's second game

Final score.  We are HOME.

Jameson's third game.

Final score.  We are GUEST.
The kids have been disappointed in their losses, but they have really been doing great!  We told them that they managed to score 10 and 12 points against 12 and 13 year olds!  That is a HUGE accomplishment!  We have really enjoyed basketball and we hope that Jameson will continue to like it and want to play again over the years!

---------------------------------

Speaking of basketball, you know we had to have parent shirts, right?

Front

As was pointed out on Twitter, yes, his team name is "Munford White".  The teams are color names like Red, Blue, White, etc...  I know, real creative.

Back
I think they turned out pretty cute considering how quick I put them together and didn't have a clue what colors their jerseys were going to be.

------------------------------------

Sweets continues to cause many laughs around here.  Here is how I caught her sleeping the other day:

She is rotten!

-----------------------------------

Valentine's Day is right around the corner, so I have been working on a few things.

Red glitter heart t-shirt.

"With all my heart" shadow box.  I love these shadow boxes.  They are so much fun to pick up and shake and watch all the sequins move around.

--------------------------

I hope you all have a wonderful and fantastic week filled with sunshine!

Can you get a Master's Degree in Wrestling?

Last week at school, Jameson's class discussed President Obama's Time Magazine "Person of the Year" cover.  Their assignment after the discussion, was to do their own Time Magazine cover for the year 2032, drawing themselves and what they did to become person of the year.

In twenty years, Jameson sees himself as a famous professional wrestler.

Goodness, help us all.

Do we have the next Larry Byrd?

Jameson had his first basketball game this weekend.

Historically, Jameson is not really a "sports guy".  We tried football, and that was a total disaster.  Baseball was better, but not enough to try it another season.  Jameson just doesn't have the "killer" instincts that most sports require.  He is a big kid, but doesn't want to hit someone too hard because he doesn't want to hurt them.  He's not out there to win at all costs, he's there to have fun.

This year, he decided he wanted to try his hand in basketball.  Marty loved basketball when he was in school, so needless to say, he was thrilled.  Jameson is too young to play for the school system, but for the past couple of years, our town has had a fabulous youth sports programs open to all kids of all ages.  They practice for a few weeks, play games during the month of January, and then it's over for the season.  Great for a slacker parent like myself.  HAHA!

We've been amazed at how excited Jameson has been during this process.  He begs to go to practice and stays until they close the gym doors.  Maybe we've finally found a sport he will stick with and enjoy.  My father would be so proud!   He's definitely a novice and will have to practice a TON before he's ready for school ball, but at least it's a start!
Now on to some pictures!
(I accidentally brought my broken lens to the game, so I had to use my standard lens.  Of course, most of my pictures are horrible anyway, so y'all probably won't even notice a difference.  HAHA!)
He was so excited about his jersey number!

Spencer chillin' before the game.

Practice.

The whole team. Unfortunately, the coach had them standing with their BACKS to the crowd.  No clue why he decided to do that!
Spencer getting in the middle of the action.

I think that's as close to the ball as he got the entire game. :/

Game over.
Unfortunately, they lost 26 - 8 (yes, it was that bad), but Jameson had a blast.  He said he can't wait for this week!

We may not have a future Larry Byrd on our hands, but we do have one happy little guy!
